The Value of Garlic to Man.


     For over 3,500 years ago, when the children of Israel trekked across the wilderness of Sinai, they remember and were pondering about the sweet savor of Egypt, how they eat the fish, cucumbers, watermelons onions, leeks and garlic.(numbers 11: 4, 5). Yes they longed for garlic because of its tremendous values to them,


       Garlic (Allium sativum) is an herb used widely as a flavoring in cooking has also been used as medicine, preservatives, etc throughout ancient and modern history to prevent and treat a wide range of conditions and diseases. Garlic belongs to Onion genius (Allium) and is closely related to onion, rakkyo, chive, leek, and shallot. It is used by humans for thousands of years for both culinary purposes and for its therapeutic benefits.

      "Hippocrates" known today as the father of western medicines prescribe garlic for a wide range of conditions and illnesses, he promoted the use of garlic for the treatment of respiratory problems, parasites, poor digestion, and fatigue. Athletes in Greece were given garlic possibly as the earliest example of performance enhancing agent.

     Another physician of old "Dioscorides" recommended garlic for leprosy, cancer, wounds, infection, and heart trouble. In the 19th century, French chemist Louis Pasteur studied garlic and described its antiseptic properties. In Africa, during the 20th century Albert Schweitzer, a famous missionary doctor used garlic to treat amoebic dysentery and other diseases.

     During the 2nd world war, when Russian military doctors ran short of modern drugs, they used garlic to treat injured soldiers. Garlic became known then as Russian penicillin; More recently, scientists have studied how the circulatory system benefits from garlic. Garlic is thus outstanding nutritionally and medically and its smell and flavor are truly unique.



Compound and Mineral contents of Garlic.

 

     Garlic could end your hair loss problems because of the high level of Allicin contents in it. Allicin is a sulphur compound similar to that found in onions which were found to effectively treat hair loss. Rub slice clove of garlic on your scalp squeezing as you go for the most benefit. Garlic can also be infused with oil to massage into your scalp.

     Garlic is very rich in sugars, proteins, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iodine, silicone, vitamins A, c, B1, B2, B3, Sulphur compound, and oil soluble nutrients. Ajoene is another compound found in garlic, which impedes the formation of blood clots in the arteries, this helps to prevent stroke and control choresterous level in blood.

     Garlic is also rich in selenium, this indispensable element is used in the neutralization of free radicals which helps to prevent several illnesses in the body. Selenium is an antioxidants helping to slow down the effect of cell oxidation and aging.  Another compound found in garlic is Saponin, this compound acts in lowering blood pressure thus preventing stroke. Fructose is also found in garlic, and it work is to help stimulate the immune system.
